In November 2024, the American public’ s lack of patience was a massive gift to the Republican Party, as they managed to regain control of both the White House and the Senate while retaining a narrow majority in the House of Representatives.
The public had grown impatient with the then-current administration of President Joe Biden due to the high cost of living brought on by years of inflation( that they seemingly forgot began during the last year of the Trump administration.) And while the Biden administration did manage to bring inflation back down to mostly normal levels, millions of Americans were still feeling tremendous amounts of economic pain. The administration, to their own detriment, kept telling us that things were getting better, but millions of Americans didn’ t feel it and felt that it was time for a change in leadership.
Ironically, this was the same thing that led to the first election( through the electoral college, not the popular vote) of Donald Trump. During the Obama administration, we were told that the economy had fully rebounded from the Great Recession brought on by the policies of George W. Bush, but millions of Americans were left out of that recovery. Wall Street was booming, corporate profits were at then-record highs, but Americans were watching as their paychecks bought them less each year. But much like at the end of the Biden presidency, the economy did, in fact, look great on paper.
