The plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit accused Apple of violating privacy laws by unintentionally activating Siri on its devices and recording private conversations, which were allegedly shared with third parties.
Apple has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $ 95 million class action settlement to resolve the allegations.
Under the terms of the Apple Siri settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the number of devices they owned and the net settlement fund after deductions.
Class members who submit valid claims can receive up to $ 20 per Siri device. Exact payments will vary depending on the number of devices claimed and the number of claims filed.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is July 2, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the Apple Siri settlement is scheduled for Aug. 1, 2025.
Meta struggles to dismiss Instagram addiction class action lawsuit
Meta Platforms may struggle to get out of a class action lawsuit accusing the social media giant of making its Instagram platform addictive to children.
Experts say the lawsuit will likely be allowed to proceed since it focuses on Meta’ s conduct, not the content posted by users, and that it does not infringe on Meta’ s First Amendment rights due to it alleging the company made false claims about the safety of its platform, reports Law360.
The lawsuit, filed by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell, argues Meta uses features such as infinite scrolling and autoplay to keep children engaged on Instagram, despite knowing the platform is harmful to their mental health.
Meta, meanwhile, argued the complaint should be dismissed because it is protected by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which it said shields online platforms from liability for user-generated content.
The social media giant also argued that the lawsuit violates its First Amendment rights to free speech, according to court documents, as reported by Law360.
The lawsuit also claims Meta has made false claims about the safety of Instagram— including in congressional testimony and media interviews— and failed to implement an age verification process to keep children under 13 off the platform, reports Law360.
Campbell further argues Meta’ s claims that its platforms are safe is“ belied” by internal company data that she says shows the addictive nature of Instagram harms children.
Meta has not yet responded to the appeals court’ s ruling, reports Law360. The company has previously denied the claims in the lawsuit and said it is committed to making its platforms safe for children.
A California federal judge in March dismissed some claims against social media companies— including Meta and Snap— involved in a multidistrict litigation for claims they are responsible for causing addiction and personal injuries to their adolescent users.
GM recalls nearly 600K vehicles due to potential engine failure
General Motors is recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles in the U. S. due to potential engine issues.
The GM recall affects vehicles such as model year 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade SUVs, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks, and more, all equipped with 6.2-liter V8 engines. The issue stems from possible manufacturing defects in the connecting rod and crankshaft engine parts.
The recall was announced on April 24 following a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration( NHTSA), ID 25V-274.
According to the report, the defective engine components could increase the risk of a crash if the engine fails while the vehicle is in motion.
“ The connecting rod‘ and / or’ crankshaft engine parts‘ may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure,’” the automaker’ s report stated.
The GM recall notice advises vehicle owners to be vigilant for any warning signs of engine trouble, such as unusual noises or performance issues.
If such signs are detected, drivers are urged to stop using the vehicle and contact a GM dealer immediately.
“ The risk of a crash is heightened if engine failure occurs while the vehicle is being driven,” the recall notice says.
GM is proactively addressing the issue by notifying affected vehicle owners and providing instructions on how to proceed. The company is offering free
