The Philip Morris settlement puts an end to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the husband and daughters of the woman , Lisa Morris , against the tobacco company and the supermarket chain . Details of the settlement were not disclosed , reports Law360 .
The lawsuit argued Morris started smoking Marlboro cigarettes as a preteen after being given a free sample at a county fair in Springfield , Massachusetts , in the early 1970s . The family argued the free sample was part of a marketing strategy by Philip Morris to target young consumers .
Philip Morris and Stop & Shop argued Morris , who worked in the medical field , was aware of the risks of smoking and had seen a family member die of lung cancer . The defense also argued Morris could have quit smoking , as she had done periodically in the past , reports Law360 .

According to the lawsuit , Amazon surreptitiously tracked and sold California residents ’ sensitive movements and locations .
Kolotinsky alleges Amazon developed and disseminated a software development kit called the Amazon Ads SDK that enables backdoor access to consumers ’ devices and opens a direct data collection pipeline to Amazon and its advertising partners .
“ On information and belief , tens of thousands of app developers have embedded Amazon ’ s Ads SDK into their mobile apps , allowing Amazon to siphon data from consumers ,” the Amazon class action says .
The data Amazon collects , which allegedly includes timestamped geolocation data that reveals where a consumer lives and works and which locations they frequent , is incredibly sensitive , the lawsuit claims .
