WITH THE ENEMY How banks fund terrorism and get away with it

By Sara G . Stephens
Nobody likes to think that the president of a bank , the person who ’ s a member of their country club and who they see on the golf course every Sunday is doing business with terrorists . It ’ s just hard for people to fathom that .
But the reality is , if you are going to run a terrorist organization , “ if you ’ re going to be a terrorist worth your salt ,” according to Levin Papantonio Rafferty ( LPR ) Attorney Chris Paulos , who heads the firm ’ s counterterrorism and human rights litigation .
“ Then you need access to money , you need to be able to move money , you need to be able to conceal money , and you need to be able to do it on a transnational or global scale ,” Paulos added . “ And the only way that you can do that is through banking institutions .”
