Is AI The Future Of Law Or A Dangerous Trap For Lazy Lawyers?

The phrase“ the future is now” has been overused for decades. Marketers have used that phrase to describe new cars, new video games, new computers, new phones, new appliances, and everything else that you could think of. The latest“ future” to arrive“ now” is artificial intelligence— an ever-creeping technology that is showing up in our day-to-day lives whether we want it to or not.
Is AI the“ future” that we need? Will it be the technology that allows us to solve the most pressing problems of our time? Or will it be the tool that brings about our own demise?
There are entire genres of film and literature devoted to the dangers of artificial intelligence, where mankind falls victim to the very technology that we thought would save us. And that could very well be a possibility in the future, but right now AI has a long way to go before science fiction could even become our frightening new reality.
The legal industry, like so many others, is beginning to adopt AI tools, and it hasn’ t always been pretty. This is where the questions about our future come into play: Are we going to let AI help us, or will we allow it to take over for us?
