The Treasures of Art:
a Bridge that connects our Cultures
In this e-book the students of two distant
classes, the 6th class of the 8th Primary School of
Karditsa, Greece, and the 2nd class of
Vazrazhdane Secondary School of Ruse, Bulgaria,
present the result of their co-operation towards
the exploration of an artistic technique which is
found in both cultures. This technique is called
filigree and is found both in Greek jewellery
adorning the traditional women’s costumes of
Thessalia, a province of central Greece where
Karditsa is situated, and in traditional jewellery
and other items of the Bulgarian folk art. It is
also found today in modern works made by
jewellers in Ioannina and other Greek cities.
