who for the whole time I was there
treated me like I was their youngest son. I
discovered that my hosts actually live in a
much smaller town called Pangkep, about
an hour’s drive north and situated deeper
in the mountains. My ride for the next
two weeks was a 125cc Honda motorcycle
borrowed from the oldest of the four
sisters. And what’s more, it was pink. Way
to go. And so there I was, the only white
person in the area, 190cm tall riding a pink
motorbike with a local girl behind him. She
was the only one who could speak English
and she was my host, my guide and my
translator.
