afé culture in Montréal has been steadily on
the rise over the past few years with more and
more independent coffee shops popping up in
all parts of the city. A kaleidoscope of flavours, scents
and atmospheres, this rising phenomena mirrors the
city’s essence perfectly: Montréal is a dreamy, bold mix
of multicultural, cross-global influences, which seep and
affect every aspect of daily life.
Above all, Montréal has always been heavily
influenced by a long-standing Italian immigrant

population coupled with an equally rich coffee and food
culture - from its famous Little Italy to delicious Italian
restaurants and cafés like Olimpico and Caffè Italia. This
new wave, or “Third Wave” is a little different, however.
Like its predecessors, it focuses on the quality of the
beans, but in addition there is also an emphasis now on
who cultivated it and where, as well as the connection
between farmers, roasters, and café owners, all of which
are intricately woven in this expanding coffee culture
web.
