Former Rising Star of Trading and Execution, Maxence Boniol, head of execution trading at Greenwich Dealing, caught up with NATASHA COCKSEDGE, to unpack his career journey so far, and discuss key factors shaping the buy-side and the wider industry, from technology and AI to bouts of market volatility.
Tell us about your career journey so far – how did you reach your current position as head of execution trading at Greenwich Dealing? I joined Greenwich Dealing three years ago after completing a masters degree in Paris to work as a junior cross-asset trader within the firm. After a short time in this role, there were some internal movements and I was presented with the opportunity to take on a more senior position, and now it’ s been almost two years in this current position. It was a bit of a challenge at the beginning because I ' m still young, and I took on the role with less experience than expected, but I think I’ ve risen to the challenge well.
The opportunity to have so much responsibility at such a young stage of my career is amazing- not planned at all. I strongly believe in what we as a company are doing currently. Specifically, the product we are offering to our clients, and the fact that we are crossasset allows me to see a lot of different things in my role, but there’ s also a chance to diversify and stake your claim in a sector like cash
What’ s the most important lesson you’ ve learnt so far in your career? To never stop learning and be very curious about anything. Particularly reflecting on what I’ ve done, becoming head of execution trading in a really early stage of my career, without much market experience. By asking a lot of questions to colleagues, to management, to new people within the industry, you really get to unlock the other side and see how others are working and functioning, and take that to see how myself and my team can improve.
