From the
Chairman
What a glorious time of year! Leaves turning colors, a bit of crispness in the air, and the promise of two of my favorite
holidays. We focus on giving thanks for family, friends, health and contentment. Here at Baylor, those blessings are never
taken for granted. Just as the pilgrims recognized that they could not survive and thrive in the new world without help
from the native Americans, Baylor knows it is not just the fabulous doctors, wonderful nurses, talented technicians and
dedicated staff that make a hospital great. We must rely on others with caring, generous hearts to give critical funds to
help Baylor care for each patient who comes through our doors.
In this torch, you will read about so many giving people who have stepped forward to share their bounty to provide
quality medical care possible for people they will probably never meet. The Celebrating Women luncheon, the Grand
Rounds® Golf Tournament and the Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute walk/run were each bigger and better than
last year! So many caring folks attended and showed their support by contributing mightily to fight breast cancer, to
educate the next generations of physicians and to defeat diabetes — and we are so very thankful for their selfless gifts!
Take a moment to read about the heart-warming opening of the Canine Companions for Independence® at Baylor Scott
& White Health – Kinkeade Campus. It has been made possible by outstanding gifts from people who know the healing
that comes from our furry friends … especially ones that are trained to do so many things for individuals no longer able to
do for themselves.
You will also find an article about the tremendous bequest by a very special donor who is looking to the future and all that
her funds will provide – what an outstanding legacy of love and healing!
I thank each of you whose generous heart helps us meet new medical challenges each day! Without your commitments
and support, both large and small, Baylor as a not for profit hospital could not survive and thrive! And as we anticipate the
end of the year – let’s spend less time thinking about what trinkets we might give and receive, and think more about what
lasting good we can do by sharing our bounty with those seeking health and healing at Baylor, now and in the future.
