GIOVANNI FILARDO, PH.D.
Under the leadership of Giovanni Filardo,
Ph.D., M.P.H., the epidemiology department at
Baylor Scott & White Health develops and executes epidemiologic and comparative effectiveness
research studies to improve patient management
and outcomes at Baylor Scott & White facilities.
In recognition of his work and innovative research
in the field, in 2011, Dr. Filardo was named the
Bradley Family Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular
Epidemiology at Baylor University Medical Center
at Dallas, a position he is honored to hold.
“In an institution like Baylor, my role is to conduct research that supports our mission of quality
and safety,” said Dr. Filardo. “Thanks to the support of the Bradley Family and Baylor Health Care
System Foundation, I am able to have time dedicated to research that allows us to do work at the
highest level. This support allows us to not only
enhance quality and safety for Baylor patients, but
to develop protocols and best practices that have an
impact in the future.”
Dr. Filardo received his Ph.D. in epidemiology
with a concentration in cardiovascular disease
from Yale University. He is an NIH- and AHRQfunded principal investigator. He has extensive
experience in cardiovascular research, predominantly focused on outcomes of cardiac surgery,
and currently oversees 20 research projects. In
addition, Dr. Filardo’s research has garnered more
than $6.5 million in grant funding from federal
