the torch Spring 2016, Issue 1 | Page 25

From the Chairman “Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.” – Unknown Healing comes in many forms at Baylor. It could be a canine companion, a new kidney, physical therapy or the newest innovative technology to help you walk again, a place to stay during cancer treatments, music, visual or performing arts to promote healing, and, of course, always prayers. Most hospitals bring to mind operations, medicines, and medical treatments, but there is so much more to healing and wholeness at Baylor. So much more to independence and restored life. So much more to hope. Baylor is so patient-centered that everyone — from the nurses, doctors, researchers and administrative staff to the transport staff that pushes your wheelchair and staff that cleans your room — cares for you and cares about you. You will read about many areas of healing in this edition of the torch, and I hope it makes you smile knowing that these wonderful things take place every day in Dallas, right here at Baylor. You’ll read about Hope Lodge Dallas, about Baylor Institute of Rehabilitation, and about our transplant initiatives. And, of course, you’ll read about some of the wonderfully generous people who help make each possible. We love to shout from the roof tops our gratitude to donors who think beyond themselves to help others, whether in their lifetime or through bequests. We also appreciate the many professional advisors who talk with their clients about connecting with Baylor! Donor support for Campaign 2015 touched the entire system, all our medical programs, medical education, capital improvements, technology needs and innovative research. Generous donor support is the driving force behind the healing patients expect to find at Baylor. So if you made a donation through one of our events, participated in unrestricted annual giving or directed a gift to a program or area that touches your heart – I salute you! YOU made Campaign 2015 an awesome success that is measured not just in dollars but in patient care – and YOU are what makes me smile. Thank you for having the faith and confidence to invest in healing at Baylor, so that the damage no longer controls our patients’ lives.
