Plano Health & Wellness Center provides support for cancer patients

In August, Baylor Scott & White Health celebrated a major milestone: the opening of the Baylor Scott & White Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center Health and Wellness Center – Plano. The accomplishment gives a permanent home to an array of support programs which are in place to enhance the quality clinical care Plano is known for.
The Cancer Health & Wellness Center helps patients understand and manage the physical, emotional and spiritual challenges of cancer. It features 7,500 square feet of patientand family-friendly space, located adjacent to the Women’ s Imaging Center and physician offices. While many of these services have been offered, patients can now access them all in one space.
The Cancer Health & Wellness Center was entirely funded by philanthropy, including a $ 500,000 Celebrating Women grant and a gift from Texas Oncology. Many areas within the Cancer Health & Wellness Center are named and funded graciously by our donors, such as the Mark Engleman, M. D., Resource Library. The late Dr. Engleman specialized in radiation oncology and was in practice for more than 12 years with Texas Oncology Plano West. In this role, he led the establishment of an award-winning cancer program at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center
– Plano, where he served as medical director of oncology services. His life’ s work was dedicated to creating a comprehensive and award-winning cancer program to help those in need pre- and post-treatment. Among his many accomplishments, he helped establish a nationally recognized breast cancer program at Baylor Scott & White – Plano, and was a pioneer in helping to establish oncology protocols that benefit cancer patients at Baylor Scott & White – Plano. In addition, he was instrumental in obtaining multiple Commission on Cancer designations.
The Cancer Health & Wellness Center is an answer to increasing demand for cancer care. Over the last five years, Baylor Scott & White – Plano has seen a large increase in both total cancer cases and surgical oncology cancer cases.
“ At Baylor Scott & White – Plano, our mission is to provide personalized health and wellness through exemplary care, and in that effort, we are proud of the opening of our Cancer Health & Wellness Center,” said Jerri Garison, president of Baylor Scott & White – Plano.“ Dedicated to meeting the needs of our community, our desire is to come alongside patients, help guide them through the cancer journey and give them hope.”
