the torch Fall 2016, Issue 3 | Page 23

2 From the Chair
I hope you enjoyed this summer and found time to be with family and friends. Maybe you went fishing as I did, or swimming or just relaxed, watching the Olympics. Listening to the Olympic stories, it was obvious that it was never just a singular athlete but a whole team of coaches, family, friends and supporters— a whole community behind each competitor. All of them focused on one goal, willing to move mountains to produce the best of the best, worthy of the gold!
In such sport you cannot rest on your laurels; you have to prove yourself each and every day. That makes me think of Baylor Scott & White Health. It’ s inspiring to see the dedication and relentless effort each member of the Baylor family puts forth each day with but one goal— to provide the best possible care to every patient who comes to Baylor.
At Baylor, it’ s not about a nation’ s pride and gold medals but about patients’ lives. We too have coaches, family, friends and supporters behind us willing to move mountains so that we can do our very best. Truly, gold medal stuff happens here every day. With no winners’ podium, no anthems, no applause except maybe for our great patients who go home with a smile on their faces and appreciation in their hearts— for
they are the real winners at Baylor.
In this torch, you will read about some of our newest board members. They are a remarkable group of individuals who have many different talents and experiences but share one great thing in common. They want to learn, to coach, to support and to help Baylor be the best it can possibly be. They join an already incredibly strong Foundation board that has shown its commitment once again with 100 percent donor participation this fiscal year!
You will also read about our three major fundraising events coming this fall. Our Grand Rounds ® Golf Tournament that supports our residents’ and fellows’ training, our Celebrating Women luncheon that supports a cure for breast cancer, and the Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute Healthy Harvest Fun Walk and 5K Run. Each is vital in its funding of critical needs in North Texas. If you have not made plans to participate, it’ s not too late— sign up today!
On behalf of our patients, doctors, nurses, technicians, administrative staff and all the family at Baylor, thank you for doing what you do to help us go for the gold!
