What’s going on with all these COJCL ducks?
Have you heard this story? It all started years and years ago – in the summer of 2002 to be precise – when a small Colorado state delegation attended the National JCL Convention at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. It was not the first time these JCL sponsors had accompanied an enthusiastic and determined group of Colorado Latin lovers to national competitions, but it was the first time in many, many years that the Colorado delegation achieved an amazingly wonderful accomplishment! The summertime preparations for Nationals were well established. Practice certamen, finish additional art projects and costumes, and perhaps most importantly: get ready for the 15 minutes of judged spirit competitions that occur at the beginning of each day’s General Assembly (GA). Themes for each day are set by the host delegation a year in advance, published in the “White Booklet” - the most important reference for National Convention - that you receive when you send in your reservation to attend. There’s always a day with a “Purple and Gold” theme, and another one with a Classical theme – the day everyone wears togas – and then there are the state-theme days.
