Spanish Civil War
1936. An initial military coup fails to win control of Spain. A bloody civil war between the
Nationalists and the Republicans ensues. The army, industry, as well as the Catholic Church
contends with the Nationalists. On the other side, the Republicans are supported by urban workers
and mostly by agricultural laborers.
The Spanish Civil War ends on
April 1, 1939, with the loss of the
Liberal powers.
