Amelia Earhart flies across the Atlantic Ocean In 1928, Amelia Earhart received a phone call that changed her life completely. She was invited to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a plane and therefore to become the first woman in the human history to cross the Atlantic Ocean. “The idea of just going as an extra weight did not appeal to me at all” she said when she heard the proposal but in the end she accepted. On June 17, after several delays due to bad weather, Amelia flew a plane named Friendship with copilots Wilmer “Bill” Stultz and Louis “Slim” Gordon. The trip took more than 20 hours to be completed! When the plane landed, the crew was greeted with a parade along the Canyon of Heroes in Manhattan and followed by a reception with president Calvin Coolidge at the White House. Amelia Earhart was an inspiration for her time due to the fact that she did something unconventional and pioneering. People still feel adoration and awe for her achievement! Kyriakou Stella
