Opening Day
by Sklavounakis George
The 1 st day was as fussy as usual for everyone involved, with last-minute issues that were fortunately
dealt successfully in order to achieve the desired results. The opening ceremony’s most memorable
moment might be the one when we watched the “news
of the world” (not to be confused with the Queen album
of the same name), a multimedia presentation than
involved, between other elements, a mini theatrical
sketch of children dressed up as news boys of the 20s
and the 30s, but it’s high point it was (as it was meant to
be) the inauguration of the Secretary General, Mrs.
Zarogianni, who, then, delivered a speech that involved
the following line: “We are a world in pieces rather than
a world in peace”. This line may be that one line that can sum up not only that specific speech, but
it can even sup up the purpose of this year’s conference. And we understand that the pun’s definitely
right, having previously seen the agenda of this year’s ArcMUN. But there’s more to be seen in the
following days…
