I am so thankful for ministries such as this one
and the blessing to serve and be served. Before I came
to Camp Tejas, God had laid on my heart the seriousness of what He was going to be doing at camp this
year. There were many life-altering moments but I will
only share two.
During the elementary camp, I had a young
man in my cabin that was hungry for studying the
Scriptures and developing a deep prayer life. We had
Bible studies constantly, at the pool, in the cabin,
during free time, and I was absolutely blown away with
him. The night before the elementary school camp
ended he came to me and asked me this question.
“Kelly, how do you hear from God?” I explained to him
that everyone is unique and the manner in which he
would hear from God would be different than everyone
else and how this was such a wonderful gift that God
had given us. He understood and I continued with
examples of tools I had learned during my walk to help
“I was blown away, thinking that I
am a sinner and not only have I been
saved and adopted as God’s child,
but He shows me glimpses of His
glory and He blessed me through this
young man”
me pray. The following day he came to me with tears in his
eyes and said he had not heard from God. I prayed with him
and encouraged him to trust God. I gave him my information
to keep in touch with me.
When I got back home to San Antonio, I got a text
from him the following day and it brought me to tears. “Kelly,
I heard from God!!” it read, followed by many excited texts.
I crumpled to my knees and wept. I was blown away, thinking
that I am a sinner and not only have I been saved and adopted
as God’s child, but He shows me glimpses of His glory and He
blessed me through this young man, who heard from Him and
really knew God’s voice the way he was created to hear it.
I was also impacted by the staff at Camp Tejas. I
firmly believe that God inhabits the praises of His people and
answers those who seek Him and desire to share His love with
others. There was such an over-abundance of love from the
staff at Camp Tejas. I was beyond blessed by the friendships
that were cultivated and the love that was given. If I could put
into words how grateful I am for the hearts of these people, for
how diligent they were in providing services and loving on the
students, and for the hearts that radiated Christ, I would. The
only way I can describe it would be this: I experienced Jesus
in such a powerful way through each staff member I came into
contact with, whether it was from hugs, smiles, or conversation.
I would like to thank them from the deepest part of my heart
and express how grateful I am for the love they so eagerly
provided to me and the students. Jesus was at Camp Tejas
this year and He most definitely moved through everyone and
everything. Camp Tejas 2012 changed my life and I am so very
thankful to our Father who loves us and treasures us.//
