Greetings from Camp Tejas!
As I began to write this article I could not help but go back to last year’s “Pages.” I began to ?ip through the magazine, looking at the pictures of smiling faces and reviewing the articles. I was reminded of how thankful I am that God has allowed me
to serve in this ministry. What an honor it’s been for Janice and I to have been a part of seeing God work in the lives of so
many people. This coming February, Janice and I will celebrate our 25th year as the Directors of Camp Tejas. What a blessing it has been!
This year has been a time to celebrate. We kicked the year off with our ?rst ever fundraising campaign to raise $450,000 for
a new swimming pool. It’s been amazing to see so many people give to this project. Over the last ?ve years we have seen our
donor base grow from 16 donors in 2000 to 250 to date. We are so thankful for each of you as you partner with us in this ministry. Please pray that others will join us as partners in this ministry.
The summer of 2005 was great with record attendance and a record number of decisions for Christ. The Summer Ministry
Team, consisting of about 50 students–high school, college, and internationals–did a tremendous job communicating the
love of Jesus to our campers by serving them in many different areas. What a privilege it is to watch this part of the ministry
grow as God continues to bless the camp with wonderful students willing to spend their summer here. As you read the following pages, you will catch a part of the excitement that these students experience as they serve the campers and as they grow
spiritually on a personal level while going through the discipleship program.
As I think about next year, I can’t help but be excited as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Throughout the last 25 years many
changes have taken place around here and we want to celebrate the changes along with the part of this ministry that will never
change: our desire to serve each group so that lives are changed forever. I have two requests for those who have been here
or who have sent their children here at any time during the last 25 years. First, please consider marking your calendar now
for our 25th Anniversary weekend next August. Second, send us your memories. We want to compile as many pictures and
stories about Camp Tejas as we possibly can. Throughout the year we will display these on our website and share them with
everyone during the anniversary celebration. So mark your calendars! Bring your family and friends! Make plans to celebrate
Camp Tejas style!
The staff and I would like to say “Thank You” to all the parents who have allowed their children or youth to attend Camp Tejas
with their church group. It is our prayer that each person will be shown the love of Jesus through the total camp experience.
