Omega 3 fatty acids

The brain has a high percentage of fat and is reliant on our consumption of foods containing the omega 3 essential fatty acids DHA and EPA, to supply the building blocks for its proper function and repair. Our bodies can’t manufacture these fats so they therefore become ‘essential’. Aside from being crucial in the body for normal growth and development, Omega 3 fats can reduce inflammation in the body and modulate cholesterol ratios, if consumed in good quantities. Sardines, mackerel, salmon, omega 3 eggs, chia seeds and flaxseeds are all fantastic sources. Canned sardine and mackerel are inexpensive options and are have a mild flavour when combined with potato and other herbs in a pattie.
