jOURNEY to my career
Passion and dedication to education recently brought Leann Maxwell to the Center for Academic Services (CAS) in September 2013. As the newest member of the CAS office she serves as an Academic Coach and an Academic Advisor for Pre-Majors and 1st yr Interior Design & Fashion Merchandising Students.
Leann spent her undergraduate years at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin where she received a B.S. in Communication Studies. During her undergraduate experience, she was a Resident Assistant in an all-girls dorm and a Peer Advisor in the College of Liberal Arts. After graduation, she spent the Summer as a nanny for an American family living in Amman, Jordan and the Fall participating in the Disney College Program as a slide operator at Disney's Blizzard Beach.
In college, Leann was confident that she would never be a school teacher like her mother, father, and ultimately her younger sister, but the pull of education was too great! She soon found herself substitute teaching in elementary and high schools. Deciding that she would no longer fight her destiny, she attended the University of North Texas (UNT) where she completed a Master's in Secondary Education and a Texas Teaching Certificate in May of 2004. Leann taught Special Education Launguage Arts and Math, Theater, and Speech in Burleson ISD and Round Rock ISD. She eventually wanted to enhance her education background by adding a Master's of Library Science from UNT. Upon completion she worked as school librarian in Ft. Worth ISD.
Advising and working with students have always been a part of Leann Maxwell. She was an RA and a Peer Advisor during college and also worked as an academic advisor at the Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin. Her communication, teaching, advising, travel, and research makes Leann a great resource for cultivating TCU students!
