Update from the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District:
The Wisconsin-Upper Michigan (WUM) District has been busy with numerous
events this fall to get members involved with service, leadership, and fellowship! The first
event of the school year was the social media-themed Membership Awareness Conference
(MAC), held at Camp Wawbeek in the Wisconsin Dells from October 9th-11th. Camp
Wawbeek is an Easter Seals camp that provides care and
camp experiences to children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. During this
annual weekend stay at camp, we perform service projects for camp such as raking, highway
trash cleanup, indoor organization projects, and many more, which helps Camp Wawbeek
close down after their busy summer of campers. In addition to helping out around camp,
MAC attendees had the opportunity to attend various educational workshops to learn more
about Circle K, as well as social activities to get to know Circle K’ers around the district.
Officer training was provided, and members enjoyed workshops including CKI 101,
leadership, and many more! Some activities that were member favorites included the school
mascot auction, talent show, an energizing Zumba session, and a nighttime hayride through
camp. Throughout the weekend, our various fundraisers raised nearly $1,300 for Camp
Wawbeek. We look forward to returning to camp in the spring for our annual Spring Fling
event!
Another exciting district event that just took place on November 7th was our annual
Kiwanis Family Service Day, held in Oshkosh, WI. Every year, the district chooses a
different community where members from all over the district gather and complete a day’s
worth of service to impact a community. This year, members gathered in the Oshkosh
community and volunteered with organizations including a local homeless shelter, domestic
abuse center, YMCA, and United Way. In addition, members also spent part of the morning
making dog toys from recycled t-shirts and get well cards for a sick child. Following
everyone’s hard work, a social was held for members to bond over pizza, board games, and,
of course, Circle K!
We in the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District are always happy to host members
from other districts at our events, and we hope you consider attending one of our many
district events that we hold each year! We look forward to hearing about the great things that
other clubs and districts in Sub-C are accomplishing!
