New Releases By Terri We’re all eager to hit the cinemas, but unfortunately, we are pretty much unable to at this time. Although we'd all probably like to go outside, we know the right thing to do is stay home and safe. Instead, we have prepared for you a list of movies to look forward to over the summer or after school starts. Here are a few soon-to-come new releases to watch for when you get back to the movie cinema. Don’t remember to bring popcorn and movie tickets! We’ve all either heard of or read the famous Newbery Award and Sakura Medal book, The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate, the story of the artistic gorilla and his animal friends, Stella and Bob. If you have read it, then you’re in for one great surprise. On August 12, 2020, the Disney film, "The One and Only Ivan", will be released. Directed by Thea Sharrock, "The One and Only Ivan" is about a gorilla named Ivan in captivity in a human mall. He’s content with his life, until the arrival of a baby elephant who calls herself Ruby. Ruby opens Ivan’s eyes to the world outside his cage, and change comes for the better. Ivan is played by Sam Rockwell and Ben Bishop, and Ruby is played by Brooklynn Prince. Stella’s voice actor is someone you might have heard of- Angelina Jolie. Angelina Jolie, who has also starred in multiple films, Maleficent being only one of them, makes “famous” an understatement. Bob, a stray dog and close friend of Ivan is played by Danny DeVito, yet another famous name. DeVito has played in many movies and has even produced some. You’ve probably heard of more than a few of these, The Lorax, Matilda, Jumanji: The Next Level, and the Disney movie Hercules. All in all, "The One and Only Ivan" seems like a great movie to look forward to. Mulan: the brave girl who hides behind a facade to protect her father, family, and nation. Does the name ring a bell? Well, this July, the new live-action and highly anticipated movie, "Mulan", is coming out. In the animated film, "Mulan" is about a girl named, well, Mulan, who decides to go and fight the enemy instead of her father, because she knows he will die if he goes out to fight at his age. Mulan is to be played by Yifei Liu, also known as “Fairy Sister” by some of her fans. In the liveaction movie, new characters will also be introduced… but no spoilers! That’s it… for now. Remember to jot down “Mulan, Live-Action” into your list of movies to get back to! I’m sure you’re all familiar with Pixar Animation Studios, the studio that released the Toy Story series, and numerous other films such as Inside Out, Coco, and Up. On June 17th, a new Disney/Pixar movie, "Soul", is going to be released. "Soul" is about a Jazz teacher named Joe Gardner, who, after an unfortunate event ends up in another world, or the afterlife, as some might call it, where he is made to think about his soul and asks himself important questions such as, “Why must I chase my dream?” “Should I give up on my passion?” In the afterlife, he meets a young spirit who goes by the name of 22 that never wants to return to Earth. Joe is voiced by Jamie Foxx, while 22’s voice is Tina Fey’s. "Soul" teaches an important lesson and personifies the questions that Joe asks himself when in doubt. "Soul" has been highly anticipated and Disney fans are all eager for its release. Get ready to purchase those cinema tickets!
