Everyone needs a tribe, and every tribe needs
a midwife, whether they know it or not, which

is why we can’t think of a more appropriate topic for our
premiere issue than, “Why the World Needs Midwives.”

Before the industrialization of birth, the midwife played a
vital role in her community and was so-valued that
oftentimes she was supported in nearly every aspect of life.
This support empowered her to safely usher new life into
her community.

In order to uphold strong mothers and babies,
we need to return back to our roots and infuse
a community midwife back into the tribe!

As midwifery grows globally, it’s vital that midwives feel
the support of their sisters in other communities. This will
help magnify her potential and sharpen her
skills so she can go out and serve! Therefore, we feel
honored to be pioneering a publication by student
midwives for student midwives, to create an atmosphere
for exactly this type of support. Whether the student
midwife lives in a community where midwives abound or
stands alone within her sphere of influence, our vision is
that this publication will strengthen, inspire,
and motivate this growing collective of future
guardians of women, babies and families.
