TYPES OF DISABILITY

Disability is another form or way of ability. It is not a disease or taboo that needs to be fixed. It is a way of life and a form of identity for some people. People with disabilities (PwD) need to be respected, understood, and included in our society.

There are two major divisions of disabilities: visible and invisible disability

Invisible disabilities: These are disabilities that are not easily seen. Examples are deafness, fibromyalgia, Tourette’s syndrome, e.t.c.

Disabilities can affect people in different ways, even when one person has the same type of disability as another person. Some disabilities may be hidden, known as invisible disability. These include those that affect vision, hearing, memory, communication, nerve function, and those related to pain e.t.c.

Visible disabilities: These are disabilities that are easily identifiable in people's physical appearance. It tends to be physical such as people on assistive technologies like wheel chair
