28 Days A Hero
By Beverly Jordan
OAAA Education Coordinator
28 Days A Hero is a program that recognizes
people throughout the state of NM that are dedicated to
doing great work in the African American community
in the area of education. This year this program
was implemented during Black history month. The
purpose of this initiative is to acknowledge not only
the accomplishments of African American educators,
but the history they have brought throughout New
Mexico. Some examples of these historical monuments
in the African American community are charter schools,
barber schools, Superintendents, to name a few. During
Black History month we went to many different cites
honoring these wonderful people in their communities
who were truly surprised in receiving these awards. It
was definitely worth our office honoring them for the
great contributions that they have made.
