UNM Africana Studies Program to the
#DOYOURPARTNEWMEXICO is a student driven initiative that supports
Africana Studies at the University of New Mexico becoming the top department
in the Southwest United States. After five decades of serving the University,
Africana Studies is the last ethnic studies unit lingering in program status. A
department of Africana Studies adds academic legitimacy to the university and
creates opportunities for students from across the state, throughout the country
and all over the world to pursue a graduate degree in the discipline. A
department of Africana Studies at the University of New Mexico increases
enrollment, raises the institutions educational and intellectual profile, and
positively addresses long-standing concerns about Black campus climate.
DO YOUR PART! Over 850 people have joined in to send the UNM’s Dean of
College of Arts and Sciences, Mark Peceny, and Executive Vice President and
Provost for Academic Affairs, Richard Wood a message in support of an
Africana Studies Department at UNM. Join us by clicking the link below.
