A Letter from the Director...
Happy New Year!
Here we are, 2016! What happened to 2015? It was certainly a whirlwind year but we have so much to celebrate.
The College of Business spent the entire year celebrating its Centennial with a number of events and functions. Joining in the celebration, the PGA Golf Management program conducted a golf tournament as part of the festivities. PGA Golf Management students organized and facilitated the event and even teamed up with alumni and friends of the College in the scramble tournament held at the MSU Golf Course. The year’s celebration concluded with a gala, at which our own Joe Assell and Rod Perry were named among the Top 100 College of Business graduates. What a tremendous recognition!
On the student front, we had another successful year in many aspects of the program. Students continued to secure outstanding jobs at many facilities across the country, both for internship and full time placement. Students also performed well in the classroom and on the golf course. It is amazing to watch the students dedicate themselves to improve and grow in so many areas.
Earlier in the year, 10 students traveled to Sam Houston State University for our annual Heritage Cup match. This year proved a challenge with the weather and we were pleased to retain the Cup with the first ever tie in the matches. Sam Houston State will travel to Starkville for the 9th playing of the matches in April.
The PGA of America hosted the PGA Jones Cup once again at the PGA Golf Club in Port Saint Lucie, FL. Students from all 19 University programs gathered for this national championship conducted by our very own, Mark Tschetschot. Mark and the PGA Tournament staff provided the participants with an experience only found on Tour! It is truly special to see the legacy of Dr. Jones celebrated in this fashion. Thank you to the PGA of America for hosting this special event!
In November, Luke Millhouse, a junior from Wisconsin, was chosen as Mississippi State’s representative at the PGA of America Annual Meeting at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Every year the PGA allows each University program to select one student to participate in the Annual Meeting. Luke had an opportunity to play golf with PGA Past Presidents, attend both the Awards and Hall of Fame ceremonies, attend breakout meetings, and visit with many PGA leaders.
