positions that are now open and making
recommendations to the governor about
who he should appoint to the bench.
Similarily, the many important committees
of SBAND continue to do their work of
serving the members in an important way.
Often unseen by others, they continue
their work tirelessly and often without
thanks.

As I write this article, the warm, sunny,
humid days of summer are going strong.
Vacations are in full swing. A drive around
Fargo’s parks reveals them full of children
playing, swimming, and enjoying all that
summer has to offer. Lakes country is busy
with people attending to their lake homes
and hitting the water enjoying aquatic
recreational activities.
SBAND has not slowed down, however.
Executive Director Tony Weiler, Jeanne
Schlittenhard, and the capable staff
at SBAND worked extremely hard to
implement and execute another great
annual meeting in Bismarck. The planning
committee for the annual meeting is,
I know, quite proud of how it all came
together once again for a great meeting.
The judicial nominating committee
is going strong, meeting with many
candidates for the various judicial

The summer has also been filled with
meetings for SBAND leadership. The
American Bar Association Annual
Meeting was recently held in Chicago.
In conjunction with that meeting, the
National Conference of Bar Presidents and
the National Association of Bar Executives
also met.
I recently attended the Western States Bar
Conference and ѡ
