• Two student teams, coached by Sam
Gereszek, competed at the Herbert J.
Wechsler National Criminal Law Moot
Court Competition, held in Buffalo,
New York. The only national moot court
competition to focus on substantive
criminal law, 24 teams argued a case
centered on a Fourth Amendment
problem involving a smartphone. Law
students Jesse Powell and Sarah Scholler
advanced to the quarter finals, and Laney
Herauf and Sarah Kuntz also represented
the School of Law very well.
• Two student teams competed at the
National Religious Freedom Moot Court
Competition at George Washington
University Law School in Washington,
D.C. Law students Tracy Green, Laura
Ringsak, Benjamin Sand, and Jared Wall
all advanced to the top eight out of 28
teams. In the quarter final round, they
were defeated by the teams that took first
and second place in the competition.
We are so proud of all of these students!
Each of them displayed preparedness,
professionalism, and passion in these
challenging competitions. Special thanks
are owed to Denitsa Mavrova Heinrich, Jim
Grijalva, and Kirsten Dauphinais, as well
as our adjunct coaches, who put in many
hours to oversee the students’ preparation.
Thanks, too, to our student Moot Court
Board—Kyle Craig, Laney Herauf, Tracy
Green, Jared Wall, and Erica Woehl—
who coordinate the UND Moot Court
competition, the External Moot Court
Teams, and the Carrigan Cup.
And, on behalf of all of our students, staff,
and faculty, we thank the members of our
bench and bar who took time out of very
busy schedules to help guide our students to
practice-readiness! Your commitment to the
