There were songs and small dramas in both Sinhala and Tamil, dances in a variety of styles, and simple games. I even shared a few songs from my home. This nightly program, along with my time working in the garden with the students and the informal interactions I had, formed the true learning experiences of my two weeks at the Islander Center. I developed a greater appreciation for the diversity of this country, found inspiration for refocusing my research, and had the opportunity to learn from and connect with young people from around Sri Lanka, while sharing pieces of my own life.
