THE HEAD OF OUR GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS TEAM TESTIFIES ON BEHALF OF SPORTSMEN IN CONGRESS .

The Sportsmen ’ s Alliance was the first to sound the alarm concerning the Biden Administration negotiating with the litigious Center for Biological Diversity ( CBD ) over the expansion of hunting and fishing opportunities on the National Wildlife Refuge ( NWR ) system under the Trump Administration . CBD used the unnecessary and secret negotiations to advance its agenda of ending the use of lead ammunition and fishing tackle by sportsmen — starting with the new hunting and fishing opportunities .

Every step of the way , the Sportsmen ’ s Alliance tracked and notified our members and the public of the subterfuge and needless compromise , including revealing that Deb Haaland , Secretary of the Interior , pulled down a website detailing government settlements and payouts .
Of course , it was all for naught as the federal government agreed to the extreme environmental organization ’ s true intention of banning any lead fishing tackle or ammunition use on the refuges in question , as well as future expansions to the system .
Enter Virginia Rep . Rob Wittman , who introduced H . R . 615 , the “ Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act of 2023 .” The bill bars the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture from prohibiting or regulating the use of lead ammunition or tackle on federal land or water that is under the jurisdiction of such departments and made available for hunting or fishing . The bill makes exceptions for specified existing regulations and where the applicable department determines that a decline in wildlife population at the specific unit of federal land or water is primarily caused by the use of lead in ammunition or tackle , based on the field data from such unit , and the state approves the regulations .
DAMNING EVIDENCE Sportsmen ’ s Alliance Vice President of Government Affairs , Todd Adkins , appeared at the House Natural Resources Committee ’ s Subcommittee on Water , Wildlife and Fisheries in support of H . R . 615 and went head-to-head with the country ’ s leading environmental organizations .
