As the Washington Fish & Wildlife Commission continues to push extreme anti-hunting policies , Sportsmen ’ s Alliance member Kris Cantrell called headquarters wanting to help any way possible . Given the state of the executive and legislative branches in the Evergreen State , the only path remaining is the judicial ( see page 12 ), and lawsuits cost money . With that in mind , Cantrell stepped up , secured a location and auction items , and rallied local sportsmen to come out and support our legal effort to protect hunting in the state . His initiative raised tens of thousands of dollars to combat the radical path of wildlife management in the state and gives hope to thousands of hunters . His leadership has inspired others to step forward and host events throughout the state .

WHO WE LIKE AND WHO WE FIGHT IN THE BATTLE FOR FUNDING .

HERO : KRIS CANTRELL
Washington Member , Sportsmen ’ s Alliance
VILLAIN : PENNSYLVANIA SENATE
Normally , we like to single out those ultimately responsible for crossing sportsmen , but sometimes the audacity of an entire chamber needs calling out . Like the majority of Republican senators , along with Republican Senate leaders , who passed House Bill 1300 , a fiscal bill with several funding provisions , including a lastminute amendment to divert $ 150 million from the Game Fund to the Clean Streams Fund . The Game Fund consists of hunting and trapping license fees , and this funding diversion constitutes a direct assault on the sportsmen of Pennsylvania . This Game Fund raid is especially egregious noting that the state currently enjoys a reported $ 13 billion surplus . While we agree funding for “ clean streams ” is generally good , raiding the Game Fund to do so is the wrong way for the Pennsylvania Senate to prioritize the allocation of sportsmen dollars . After outcry from sportsmen , Senate Democrats removed the amendment from HB 1300 before the House passed the bill 121 to 82 .
