LEAVING A LASTING LEGACY

THERE ARE MANY WAYS YOU CAN PROTECT WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS . By Aaron Carmichael , Vice President of Development

When was the last time you considered your legacy ? The time-tested saying , “ if you want to know what ’ s important to someone , take a look at their checkbook ,” still holds true today ( even though very few of us actually have checkbooks anymore ). The last couple of years I ’ ve had the opportunity to think a lot about legacy . In 2021 , my mother passed away . As her executor , I learned intimately what was “ important ” in her life . Likewise , we lost my mother-in-law recently and this time , my wife was her executor . Prior to these two losses , we had many conversations with our mothers and were made privy to their financial situations as they shared what they wanted done with their estates , who they wanted to bless and how they wanted to be remembered . These things are important , but it was their living legacy that had the greatest impact on our lives and the lives of those who knew them .

Your legacy includes the people you surround yourself with , the values that define you and the passion with which you fight for both . You are reading this magazine because one of your passions is ensuring that our outdoor heritage lives on in perpetuity . Your legacy can include
protecting everyone ’ s right to hunt , fish and trap , and to ensure that true wildlife and habitat conservation lives on . Your giving doesn ’ t just have to be a cash gift .
You can continue to build your legacy now by ensuring that resources to protect your passions are available long after you ’ re gone . Do you have a life insurance policy that you no longer need ? You can change the beneficiary to the Sportsmen ’ s Alliance Foundation . A gift of stock or securities will have a lasting impact on our mission . Do you have an IRA with tax implications that may prove to be burdensome to you or your family ? Can you make a gift of real estate or other valuable assets such as art , jewelry or patents ? All possibilities can help us protect the sportsman ’ s way of life .
These gifts can provide you with valuable tax deductions now and in the future , as well as relieve any future tax burden on your family . And perhaps just as important , each one of these gifts will infuse much-needed resources into the Sportsmen ’ s Alliance Foundation so that we can continue to advocate for all hunters , angler and trappers , conduct much-needed research on the impact these activities have on all facets of life , and continue to educate children , teens
and adults on the joys and value of hunting , fishing and trapping . Your gifts will make a difference now and for all future generations .

A Real-World Example
Our good friends and partners at the Pennsylvania State Fish & Game Protective Association recently made a very generous gift of stock that will allow the Sportsmen ’ s Alliance Foundation to better serve hunters , anglers and trappers , and to ensure that these activities are protected in the Keystone State .
