Marching Band
by Hannah Queener
What is marching band you ask?
Marching band is late night rehearsals, Friday night games, and weekend competitions
It’s running laps for every piece of trash left on the field
and standing at attention for as long as you can
It’s nine hour practices with five minute water breaks
It’s memorizing the music and the field until you can perform the show in your sleep
It’s vowing to give your all no matter how late it is, how hot it is, or how tired you are
It’s the director telling you to reset one more time
It’s the feeling of joy you get after finishing a performance you know you nailed
It’s the drumline pounding on their drums, the trumpets blaring their horns, and the flutes fingers flying across the keys
It’s taking long bus rides and waiting even longer for the awards to be announced
It’s about knowing that you’re a part of a bigger picture, that each member is a small piece that makes up one unit
It’s the band director saying “you’re not a collection of soloists, you’re a band”
