Profile #4 Steve White
Like many born in southern Illinois, Steve White is a
Lincoln buff, and has visited many sites in Illinois and
Indiana associated with the former president. But he admits
that a visit to President Lincoln’s Cottage at the Old
Soldier’s Home in northwest DC is still on his to-do list. An
associate dean at George Mason University’s College of
Education and Human Development, he is interested in the
theory of education and specializes in “teaching the
teachers,” with particular attention to working with doctoral
students who are interested in teacher education.
Steve came to Resurrection 14 years ago at the invitation of
a friend, and likes the sense of community that comes from
people intent on experiencing a spiritual journey together,
considering the questions that underlie and form their faith.
He has been involved as a Eucharistic minister, on lay committees for seminarians, and with our healing ministry. Most
recently he was a co-leader of the partnership working group for the Re-Visioning Committee, and is a member of one of
Resurrection’s Quest groups.
His hobbies include reading and travel. He recalls particularly his trip to Israel a few years ago as an unexpected surprise.
He describes Jerusalem as an incredibly complicated city and was impressed by the negotiations that are necessary daily in
a community that lives with constant conflict. Yet he found the people to be positive, with a strong belief in their country
and what they want.
