The Beautiful Fairies

of Helen Towner

Q. Tell us a bit about you?

A. Merry Meet!

My name is Helen and I am the artist from helen faerie art...a Pagan artist and faerie dreamer....I was born in the 1980's and I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. It is my love and my passion and it is part of who I am. Always creating, making and crafting, I love to use a variety of medias to create my faery style art work.

Q. Do you live in an area known for Fairies and how do you think growing up there helped in your drawings?

A. The area I live in is not well known for faeries, but I have wonderful memories when I was little of playing and drawing in the garden, seeing faeries flutter through the flowers and feeling the magic all around me. Living near the countryside also deepened my love of woodlands and forests has definitely contributed to my love of drawing flowers, trees, faeries, the magic of nature and all that lives within it.

Q. Your drawings are lovely, Did you study professionally or was this something your learned on your own?

A. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I was always happiest with a pencil in my hand...always doodling, writing poetry, making up stories and illustrating them. It was a feeling that this was something I was meant to be doing....it's part of who I am.

I studied at University for a Fine Art degree. I was interested in the natural patterns and colors in the landscape and after traveling to Australia, whilst at University, I created a large body of work inspired by the natural landscapes. I have always been able to draw and I am always experimenting with different medias to develop my work and to continue to learn.

Q. When did you start drawing fairy art?

A. I started drawing faeries at a young age and my love of drawing them has stayed with me always. From watching faery films and reading enchanting fairy tales, my fascination with creating faeries has always been part of my life.

Q. What is your inspiration?

A. My inspiration comes from many sources...sometimes everywhere and anything! From my vivid dreams to inner feelings, I always need a pencil and sketchbook at hand to quickly sketch an idea down and I often daydream in my own little fae world! My mind is constantly visualizing new creations. I am inspired by walks within old woodlands, dark and deep forests and sometimes just sitting quietly in my garden listening to the birds in the trees brings new inspiration to me.

I have always loved and been fascinated with Faeries and folklore which was instilled within me from a young age. Listening to my Mum read me bedtime stories of tales of magic, maidens and faery princesses really rooted my love for all things faery. Following a path of Paganism certainly plays a large inspiration within my art work. I am always inspired by the beauty of Nature and the changing seasons.
