Giving at the
Holidays
T
he holiday season is
now weeks away. (How
did that happen?!) To
many of us these next
6 – 8 weeks are a season of joy and
thankfulness, filled with planning,
shopping, family, traveling, football
games, food, presents, and perhaps
too much of any of those things.
(Pumpkin pie, if I play my cards
right!) For those of us fortunate
enough to look forward to the
holidays with excitement and
glee, it’s important to remember
that there are many people and
families whose reality is very
different, relying on social
services, food shelves, and the
kindness of others to help
them through what they
see as an incredibly stressful
holiday season.
Charitable giving is an important component of our society. It not only keeps us aware
of what’s going on in our own communities, but it provides insight into
how each of us may need the help
of others at some point in our life.
So along with all of our fun holiday
events (pictures with Santa!), we will
also see Salvation Army bell ringers
outside of stores to collect money for
