Advocate’s Corner tian has proven over and over that he doesn’t follow those “rules” that try to define what it means to have special needs. Christian still has a long road ahead of him with surgeries to complete the repair of his cleft, and lots to learn about the world without the use of vision, but I know without a doubt that he will get there. Because of Christian, we have been invited to speak all over the country, at pro-life events and events that promote education and support of those with different abilities. We have been from the East Coast to the West Coast sharing the lesson that Christian has to teach the world. Our biggest adventure was probably an invitation to be on the Doctors in Hollywood, California where the entire country got to meet Christian on national television. They learned about his condition and that it has not kept him from accomplishing things. Sometimes I get the impression that others think raising a child with a disability is the worst thing in the world, and it definitely isn’t always easy, but I wish I could share with the entire world just how exceptional our life is. Sure, I’d give whatever I could if it meant Christian didn’t have to go through surgeries, or if it meant he could see, but since I can’t, I decided to make the best of what we have. After all, I get to see the world through Christian’s eyes, and that is a unique and fascinating view. That has made our lives exceptional. † Lacey Buchanan Lacey is a Christian, mother, wife, daughter, aunt, sister, and friend to some amazing people.
