YOUTH
The Persistence of Memory
monday 06 – friday 10 July
‘The Persistence of Memory’ is our youth arts
project at The Source Arts Centre this summer
using the work of Spanish surrealist artist
Salvador Dali as the basis for ideas to develop an
artwork and a performance.
Dali’s works bring dream-like visions to the fore,
altering image and time on one canvas or in one
film. The title of the project comes from one of
his most famous paintings in which time itself
through a series of images of soft and melting
watches is seen to be a fluid construct.

Following discussion
with the group, we will
look to identify how
Dali’s classic work and
his use of imagery can
be best utilised as
inspiration for a sound,
visual arts and
performance work.
The participants will write the script, create the
set and will perform the piece on the final day of
the project. Ages: 13-18 years
