Find Affordable Rental Housing
People with low incomes, seniors and people with disabilities may qualify for help from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development( HUD) to find affordable rental housing. HUD does not own rental property. Instead, it provides funding to states and building owners, who in turn offer low-income housing opportunities.

Medicaid is a federal and state health insurance program for people with low incomes.
The Children’ s Health Insurance Program( CHIP) offers health coverage to children whose families earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private coverage.
Program names vary by state. In Iowa, these programs are Iowa Medicaid and Hawk-I.

Welfare / Temporary Assistance
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families( TANF) is a federally funded, staterun benefits program. Often referred to as welfare, TANF helps families work toward independence after temporary financial difficulties.

Social Security
The Social Security Administration issues Social Security cards to U. S. citizens, permanent residents and noncitizens who work in the United States. Services include correcting or replacing cards and obtaining a card for a new baby.
Social Security provides income during retirement or if you cannot work because of a disability. It may also provide benefits to eligible dependents in the event of death. Benefit amounts depend on lifetime earnings, the age at which benefits begin and eligibility for spousal benefits.
