LOCATED AN EASY HOUR’ S DRIVE southeast of Des Moines, Mahaska County represents a confluence of Iowa’ s best qualities. A drive down one of the county’ s roads showcases the state’ s farming and pioneer heritage, with miles of corn and soybean fields in every direction. Contrasting with the area’ s deeply rural and agrarian roots, Oskaloosa, the county seat, is a hub for fine arts and small-town charm.

Oskaloosa’ s status as the county’ s economic center has grown alongside the launch and completion of several business projects.
In August, Clow Valve Co. finished an $ 80 million expansion that added 36,000 square feet to the foundry at 1607 17th Ave. E. The expansion allows the foundry to double its productivity and underscores the company’ s
commitment to Oskaloosa.
Also in August, Musco Lighting opened its 74,000-square-foot office building and parking ramp, adding to its downtown footprint. Musco made its name providing lighting for sporting events worldwide but has since expanded beyond sports. The expansion allows the company to ease congestion in other buildings by relocating some employees, while still leaving room to hire new staff to meet growth demands.
The expansion also gives Musco the footprint of a global company.
Musco also broke ground on a new 30,000-squarefoot building in the 600 block of First Avenue West for product development and testing.
