Indian Hills Community College — with campuses in Ottumwa and Centerville — is a public , two-year junior college serving 19 high schools in a 10-county region . More than 80 % of the students come from within the region . The campuses offer arts and sciences courses , advanced technology and health sciences programs . The Centerville Campus also offers arts and sciences and advanced technology programs .
Perhaps the most consequential aspect of the college took place in 2021 , when voters in the college ’ s region approved a $ 28 million bond referendum to upgrade all campuses , including a new Centerville Academic Building . Part of that referendum was creating virtual classrooms at each of the high schools where concurrent learning takes place starting .
Founded in 1966 , Indian Hills Community College also is renowned for its athletic programs , competing in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference and supporting 16 NJAA Division I athletic teams .
