Home to the Sprint Car Capital of the World and America ’ s Dutch Treasure , Marion County is a community with deep roots in manufacturing , agriculture , tourism and Dutch heritage – all of which continue to thrive as the county makes big strides to invest in its future .
In 2022 , city and county officials broke ground for phase one of the Knoxville VA District Redevelopment project . The first phase of the project will create new housing and a fouracre park , with new housing slated to hit the market this spring . From the VA district ’ s closure in 2005 to gaining local control of the property in 2020 , the project has been 15 years in the making and will bring life back to the 160-acre area for the community .
The Knoxville Community School District opened its new middle school . The new facility features a 21st-century learning environment , with innovative academic spaces , flexible areas with natural light for students to collaborate in small groups , a courtyard and KCSD ’ s first storm shelter , which also doubles as the band and choir room .
Just 15 miles northeast from the county seat , the City of Pella announced an ambitious $ 45 million facilities plan to invest in recreation and fine arts in the community . The plan includes building a new indoor creation center ; renovating the Pella Community Center ; extending University Street and Baseline Drive to include a walking trail that will connect to Caldwell Park ; relocating the existing soccer complex to Pella Sports Park ; and a Pella Dog Park .
The Pella Community School District broke ground for a new $ 19 million Early Childhood Education Center to accommodate 3- and 4-year olds for both preschool and wraparound care . Located adjacent to Madison Elementary , it will be constructed for potential expansion in the future .
