The Soultown! Volume III: Issue 1 JANUARY 2019 | Page 2

ULP EDITOR GUEST EDITOR’S NOTE Hello and Happy New Year Soulful readers of The Soultown! This is the time of year when we embark upon new ideas, resolutions, and become better individuals. This is the time we reflect on the previous year and vow to make healthier choices in our lives; whether relationships, family, educational, personal self-improvements or clearing out our “clutter.” 2019 is here! The Soultown is ready to continue to connect our culture to our cyber and con- scious communities. Just in time for the new year, Chef D, shares the infamous New Year’s day meal that’s prepared in the households of many Black households and Dr. David Rainey, our Faith Enthusiast, inspires our readers with the importance of restoration. Dear Gabby advises how to keep it real on social media. Real Talk with Rogette Harris stresses the importance of showing up and representing at the polls. The Symbol of Peace sheds light on the value of life’s lessons. Dr. Pierre -Damien Mvuyekure “Says Yes” with his poetry and What’s Really Good argues why Kwanzaa should be acknowledged year round. In this issue, we spotlight The Soultown’s very own photographer, Michael Muhammad’s heart- piercing experience of visiting the Door of No Return at Goree Island; Dakar, Senegal. Chillin da Conscious Poet, our Innovative Extraordinaire, sheds light on the twisted behaviors of R. Kelly and the real-life stories portrayed in the highly acclaimed television show Black-ish.
