did not come easily. When The Sonder Project first visited in 2022, families were relying on shallow, hand-dug holes in a dry riverbed. Women walked roughly 20 minutes to reach water that barely rose to the surface.
The road into Lundewa required major repairs before drilling equipment could even reach the community, and the rugged Simlemba region
made finding water especially difficult. In 2024, two drilling attempts failed. Still, we did not give up. In 2025, Lundewa remained a priority, and this time, water was struck. Today, approximately 250 people have safe water close to home, giving families better health, less daily stress, and time returned for school, farming, and family life.
