STUDENT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
In 2023 , we began to transform our student sponsorship program into ‘ Education Is Power ’, a more holistic approach to supporting high-potential students from impoverished families to stay in school and achieve their dreams .
With ‘ Education Is Power ’, our vision is that students will have access to 4 pillars of wraparound support including Mentorship , Academic Support , and Life Skills Enrichment , in addition to Sponsorship .
• Mentorship - All students need positive role models in their lives . That ’ s why we assign every Power student a Sonder Project staff member as their mentor . As mentors , our staff visit their assigned students on a regular basis and conduct one-on-one meetings to address challenges and provide advice and support to overcome them .
• Life Skills Enrichment - We look to build character , confidence and understanding outside of the traditional classroom . Reproductive Health , Career Exploration , Leadership Training , and Study Skills , are just a few of the many modules we hope to offer our students through an annual Power Retreat held in each country . We are preparing our first retreats for 2024 !
• Academic Support - Focused academic support outside of the traditional school day is critical to helping students understand challenging concepts . That ’ s why we aim to include Academic Support into our annual Power retreats .
• Sponsorship - Sponsorship remains the foundation of our program , providing the material and fiscal resources students need to reach their full potential .
Through these 4 interconnected offerings , we aim to increase the impact , sustainability , and empowerment of our education initiatives . This enables us to ensure that more students in our program succeed both in and out of the classroom , in order to graduate and pursue careers and higher education .
