WATER IS OUR RIGHT CLEAN WATER PROGRAM

Clean water is the cornerstone of progress in the rural communities where we work . Clean water safeguards health , fuels education , and propels economic activities . It irrigates fields , ensures proper hygiene , and brings harmony to families and communities .
Last year was pivotal for our well drilling program , as we pushed to create greater sustainability for wells in our partner communities , challenged ourselves to construct wells in more difficult environments , and even built an entire water distribution system at a secondary school ! Here are a few highlights :
• Well # 50 - Drilled for a primary school in Malawi , this well represents our long-term commitment to the importance of clean water , and was dedicated in honor of 360 Blue , one of our Founding Partners . It was funded through the contributions of employees from both 360 Blue and Key Data who contribute 1 % of their salaries to The Sonder Project .
• Our 1st Comprehensive Water System - Previously , Chayamba Secondary School , and its 600 + students and teachers , suffered from an inconsistent water supply and constant shut-offs . Now , clean water will be efficiently pumped to the school ’ s dormitories , kitchen , bathrooms , classrooms , and teacher ’ s houses . Such systems are not always practical in rural communities , but they can have a huge impact on education in school settings .
• Community Training - We continue to enhance community ownership of the wells we drill by organizing training sessions where community members learn the basics of well mechanics through hands-on guidance from dedicated , local mechanics . Now , community members are equipped to independently troubleshoot common issues and ensure the proper maintenance and smooth functioning of the well pumps without dependency on external assistance .
We closed the year with 12 new deep-water wells , including the well for the water system , impacting over 6,300 people with improved health , more livelihood opportunities , and a newfound sense of harmony within communities and families .
Clean water is the foundation of the sustainable development pyramid , creating opportunities for students to excel in school , parents to earn more income , and more productive agricultural cultivation , all leading to long-term economic growth in communities !
