THE SONDER PROJECT | 2020 ANNUAL REPORT

LETTER FROM THE CEO

Although 2020 was a challenging year for so many , we invite you to

celebrate with us some of the good . Over the past year , we expanded to a new country , Malawi , we increased access to clean water for over 18,000 people and we increased access to education for over 1,000 students — all through our global programs in sub-Saharan Africa . Furthermore , in response to the Covid-19 pandemic , we trained 250 people across nine communities to educate others about the virus and promote sanitation through Tippy Tap handwashing stations . Learn more about the impact of these initiatives as you meet Josophine , Rasmata , Athia , and Jessy later in our report .
2020 also allowed us the space to think critically about the core values , vision , and mission that define us . We have always been driven by the desire to do the most good for the greatest amount of people at the most efficient cost . At the end of the day , our work is not simply about water , education , or food security , but rather it ’ s about providing the resources and the opportunity to improve lives . It ’ s about balancing out global inequities . It ’ s about lifting current and future generations from poverty so they may dream freely and seek their own meaningful life of happiness . Ultimately , it ’ s about having the highest possible , sustainable impact . As a result , we revised our mission , vision , and core values to reflect our purpose more accurately and focus on the end goal . Although the work we do in our partner countries hasn ’ t changed , a clearer vision means we are better positioned now to affect lasting-change than ever before .
As I look ahead to 2021 , the needs are great . The Coronavirus pandemic has only exacerbated the challenges impoverished communities continue to face , and it hasn ’ t made the basic resources our partner communities lack any less critical . The right to access clean water , the right to receive a dignified education in a safe location , the right to know when your next meal will be . These are the issues we will continue to address in partnership with communities in our partner countries , and we will do so with the goal of having the highest sustainable impact at the most efficient cost . We hope you will join us .
Stay healthy and safe in 2021 .
